KANSAS - Teacher Megan Brickman explained Blooms Taxonomy of Thinking Skills developed by Benjamin Bloom and how it has changed her method of teaching during the regular board meeting Monday night.
She said by incorporating the actionable verbs from the six categories in her lessons, it "gets them [students] active and gets them doing." Brickman showed examples of previous testing with answer choices of a., b., c. or d. to the new testing with choices of drawing elements on a map and making decisions.
Treasurer Jenny Hendrick presented the annual five-year fiscal forecast which was approved by the board. She noted there was a slight increase in real estate and income tax revenues. Hendrick also distributed Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference packets to members for the November event in Columbus.
Superintendent David Danhoff expressed his approval with the staff in-service held earlier in the day. Director of Special Education Tracy Foos said subject standards have all been updated and were reviewed.
Danhoff asked the board to approve a resolution to purchase a new 72-passenger school bus from Cardinal Bus Sales & Service Inc. for $74,000, less $4,000 trade-in fees for two older buses.
In other board business, the board:
Hired certified substitutes Sydney Bland, Virginia Beaston, classified substitutes Rebecca Eisenman, Elizabeth Riddle, Angela Kern and David Reese.
Appointed Deborah Oberhouse as a tutor.
Accepted the resignation of Hannah Kieffer as certified substitute.
Paid tuition reimbursements to Susan Avers, Janet Bechtel, Brenda Bosse, Dawn Currier, Linda Doering, Megan Downs, Jeremy Koppus, Tracy Rosser and Maryann Wansitler.
Approved a salary upgrade to Jeremy Koppus to Masters with seven years.
Approved an agreement with Sandusky County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Accepted a proposal with S & S Builders and Excavating LLC for snow removal at $21,540.
Received a donation of a Red Magnolia Tree planted on the property from the Class of 1961.
The board entered into an executive session 7:45-8:35 p.m. for the purpose of consideration of appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of an employee, student or school official with no action taken.
The board is to meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 12.
