BEXLEY - It was another day of huge offense, stifling defense, and a blowout win.
In other words, just another day at the office for Heidelberg's No. 22 football team.
There's plenty that can be written about Heidelberg's first five games of the 2012 season. One thing that can't be written about those games is that they raise the blood pressure.
The Student Princes are 5-0 for the first time in 18 years. They aren't just beating opponents. They are smothering them. HU is averaging 50.8 points a game, and only allowing about eight.
Heidelberg gave Capital little chance Saturday, scoring the game's first 31 points and rolling to a 45-10 win over the Crusaders.
It was Heidelberg's first win in Bexley since 1999.
Quarterback Mike Mees torched the Capital secondary, completing 17 of 33 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. Two of his receivers - C.J. Powell and Donteea Dye - finished with more than 100 yards.
It was another in a string of strong games for Mees, who is just a sophomore.
"The adage is, we feel it's gonna take 15 games to have things settle down [for a player] and slow down for them," Heidelberg coach Mike Hallett said. "It was Mike's 15th game."
Of course, Mees had plenty of help. He threw touchdown passes to Powell (1 yard) and Christian Dominguez (19 yards), and Mees and Colin Bultinck completed passes to 10 different receivers.
Hallett was asked if the receivers' play reminded him of the days of former HU receiver Mike Preston, who's now on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans.
"[Receivers coach] Bryan Moore's done a great job developing them," Hallett said. "They have the same work ethic as Mike P."
Then there was running back Cartel Brooks, who ran for more than 100 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Justin Suddeth, Mitchell Kelly and R.J. Frazier all had interceptions, and Capital's standout running back - Bo Hardy - was held to 32 yards.
In addition, Heidelberg's Stephen Fejedelum had a pair of sacks.
"We had a number of guys who came up with big plays," Hallett said.
Capital fell to 1-4.
