CAREY - Lakota coach David Vodika watched his team manage just 11 yards of total offense, get called for 10 penalties and turn the ball over five times.

Most of it occurred on a muddy field and in a downpour.

The Raiders' coach kept it succinct after Carey's 59-0 victory.

"That's a nice football team, Vodika said of the Blue Devils. "There's not much else for me to say."

Carey dominated Friday night's game in all areas, Quarterback Matthew Holsinger had a brilliant game, running for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Justin Meek was just as good, going for 131 yards on the ground and two scores.

Carey scored 21 points in the first quarter, led 41-0 at the half, and never looked back to improve to 5-2, 3-1 in the Midland Athletic League.

Carey coach Todd Worst said he was impressed with the Blue Devils defense

"I was glad our kids came out ready to play," Worst said. "Lakota, we saw film... they moved the ball on (Hopewell-Loudon), they moved the ball on St. Joe, and we were ready to play."

The game actually started with some promise for Lakota. Carey took the opening kickoff but was forced to punt after three plays. But the ensuing punt hit off a Lakota player, and Carey recovered.

And from there, it was all Blue Devils.

Carey got two rushing touchdowns from Brandon Zechman and one each from Austin Tschanen, Levi Smalley and Dylan Musgrave. The Blue Devils ran up 419 yards of offense on the ground.

A key to that was Holsinger, who also completed 3 of 5 passes and took a number of snaps from the shotgun.

"He made some plays tonight that... he's making some reads," Worst said. "We realize that we're not big enough to line up on people and pound them. So we've got to be able to mix in some other stuff and use what we do have."

While Carey was running essentially at will, Lakota managed just 12 yards on the ground over 30 carries. The Raiders attempted only two passes, completing one - a Colin Timmons throw to Tiger Jaso for negative one yard.

"I thought (the defense) played pretty well," Worst said. "We knew that they were gonna try and power the ball on us, and we wanted to make sure that we don't get beat with our own game."

Lakota slipped to 2-5, 0-4 in the MAL.
