Alfred H. Falter, 95, of Attica, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.
He was born Dec. 9, 1916, near Attica, to Clem and Clara (Wechter) Falter. He married Marie (Mayer) Falter June 10, 1939. She passed away shortly before their 50th wedding anniversary in April 1989.
He is survived by his son, Al (Sherry) Falter Jr. of Naples, Fla.; three daughters, Mary Jane (F.J.) Dick of Attica, Ruth (Joe) Costanzo of Spartanburg, S.C., and Donna (Gerald) Studer of Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Julie) Claus of Lewis Center, Steve Shank of Perrysburg, Lisa (Steve) Donald of Boiling Springs, S.C., Shari (Scott) Smith of Canal Winchester, Dennis (Theresa) Shank of Alexandria, Dana Ingram of Shelby, Martin (Kerrie) Shank of Clayton, N.C., Kristi (Lance) Beglin of Shelby and Michael Falter of Ewing, N.J.; 22 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, Virgil Falter of Tiffin.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Matthew Falter; a great-granddaughter, Laura Jane Shank; five brothers, Cyril, Berdell, Leonard, Eugene and Gerald Falter; and three sisters, Marcella Hippler, Bernadette Holmer and Bernadine Schaffer.
Alfred was a lifelong resident of the area and a farmer by trade. This was supplemented by working at various jobs including driving milk truck, working at the ice plant in Willard, New Departure, Sandusky, and Mansfield Brass, New Washington. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and visiting with friends. His greatest joy was being with family.
Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, with the rosary being recited at 6 p.m. at Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 295 W. Tiffin St., Attica.
His Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Attica. Burial will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Attica.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Church, St. Francis Home or Bridge Hospice in care of the funeral home.
