CLYDE - Earlier this week, Columbian wrapped its first league title in more than a decade.
The good results kept coming Thursday at the sectionals, as the Tornadoes qualified a singles player and a doubles team for district play.
Columbian's Alex Kramer advanced by beating Fostoria's Lauren Risner 6-0, 6-0, then knocked off Fremont St. Joe's Kendra Molyet, 6-0, 6-0. In the third round, Kramer upended Kelsey Dietrich of Port Clinton, 6-1, 6-2.
TC's team of Allie Elchert and Audrey Vrancken received a first round bye, then beat Port Clinton's Lexi Fodor and Allison Long, 6-3, 6-2. The squad then advanced to districts by knocking off St. Mary's Colette DeRiso and Giselle Spadaro, 6-1, 6-1.
The qualifiers return to Clyde Saturday for district seeding.
Columbian's Kelsey Bishop came within a match of advancing. She beat St. Joe's Tricia Reinhart 6-2, 6-1, then knocked off Port Clinton's Morgan McGlothlin, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-0. She fell to Huron's Brittany Mayer 6-3, 7-5.
Columbian's Sarah Guzowski opened the day by beating Perkins' Carlee Vaughn, 6-4, 6-3, but lost in the second round to Oak Harbor's Ashley LaFountain, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, the Tornadoes' Kelsey Drown and Ashley Niedermier received a first round bye, then lost to St. Mary's Keeleigh Myers and Makenna Myers 6-1, 6-1.
Calvert also competed at the Clyde sectional, but didn't win a match. The team of Samantha Gase and Stasia Huth Fretz fell to Calvert's Sandusky St. Mary's Myers pair, 6-1, 6-2.
The other Senecas' team - Regina Hoepf and Anika Maiberger - lost to Fostoria's Alyssia Sandoval and Pernille Knudsen, 6-4, 6-0. Sandoval and Knudsen lost in the next round to DeRiso and Spadaro, 7-5, 7-5.
In singles play, Calvert's Margret Bowers lost to St. Mary's Alex McCabe, 6-2, 7-6. The Senecas' CeCi Burtis fell to McGlothlin in the first round, 6-3, 6-0, while Madison Daniel lost to Perkins' Sarah Sullivan, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
In other singles play, Fostoria's Angelica Esquivel fell to Mandee Darr, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. Teammate Autumn Affholder lost to Oak Harbor's Emily Goff, 6-2, 6-2.
Fostoria's doubles team of Cori Garrett and Kendall McCoy also lost in the first round to Oak Harbor's Amanda Sosa and Jessica Hymore, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
