BLOOMVILLE - Mayor Bob George made a proposal to Bloomville village council at its meeting Wednesday night, and all agreed it was a good idea.
George suggested that the community center be opened up possibly once a week for village senior citizens to congregate, play cards, have coffee and visit. He said there is currently no place in Bloomville for seniors to go. Clerk-Treasurer Janis Weasner said at one time seniors would meet once a month for a potluck. He is asking for input from the community, by calling the village office or contacting George.
George voiced concerns to Police Chief Howard Minzer regarding detours in the area due to road work, and the increasing number of vehicles coming through the village. He is concerned because children are using the streets for play.
Insurance representatives from Burnhan and Flowers, representing the Public Entities Pool of Ohio, and the Hyland Group, representing the Ohio Plan, gave presentations on their coverage. Current coverage is set to expire Oct. 21. The incumbent, Hyland, was chosen by council unanimously to continue coverage.
Ordinance 2012-2 was passed as an emergency, setting up the details for a village auction by sealed bids. The bids will be opened Nov. 7. Included in the sale is a 1991 Chevrolet dump truck, 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, a mobile generator and office
equipment.
Street Superintendent Rick Dentinger gave council an update on potential pool repairs. Two companies are being considered, one involving a liner and another utilizing spray-on epoxy. Council is to invite the representatives to see the pool and give estimates. Dentinger also will solicit references to be reviewed.
Dentinger asked for guidance on the purchase of a 1984 pickup truck for consideration as a salt truck. Council authorized Dentinger to negotiate a price.
George announced a Halloween party to be held 1-2:30 Oct. 13 at Bliss Memorial Public Library. Activities are to include a costume contest, games, crafts and a hayride. Councilman Tracy Meadows agreed to stand in for George as a costume judge. The party is open to children through grade 4.
