FOSTORIA - As in Tiffin, Fostoria City Council has been considering a way to regulate Internet cafes, and Tuesday approved an ordinance to regulate sweepstakes terminal cafes within the city limits.
Fostoria Police Captain Patrick Brooks - substituting for Chief John McGuire, who has been on medical leave - told council he is in support of the merging of the Tiffin and Fostoria municipal courts. Brooks went further, saying he has witnessed improvements in criminal prosecutions when Judge Mark Repp was appointed on an interim basis. Repp is sharing duties between Fostoria and Tiffin.
One resident was concerned becasue residents did not have a opportunity to discuss the issue nor have a vote. Mayor Eric Keckler said he believes the Fostoria clerk's office would be open daily during the week, and said fines generated from violations of city ordinances in Fostoria would stay in Fostoria.
Keckler honored the centennial of the YMCA by reading a proclamation for the Geary Family YMCA, represented at the meeting by executive director Eric Stinehelfer.
Keckler also said applications are being taken at the mayor's office for the Halloween parade, scheduled for Oct. 28.
In other action, council:
Repealed ordinance 2010-04 regarding sale of 0 Center St.
Amended sections 941.03, 941.09, and 941 of codified ordinances regarding rates, tap-in charges and dumping fees.
Approved an ordinance authorizing the safety-service director to make final settlement in court case with Stylized NAT Transportation versus the city of Fostoria in Seneca County Common Pleas Court.
Council is to meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at city hall.
