ATTICA - Tree trimming will start Thursday as planned by the tree committee in Republic even though a resident has expressed disapproval.
Council members determined Monday evening that trees would be trimmed five feet from power lines for safety and any resident could have further trimming for beautification at their expense.
Residents were reminded not to park vehicles under trees near power lines slated for trimming.
Residents were present to complain about FSI's trash pick-up service in the village. After examining the village's contract with FSI, solicitor assistant Jessica Monday said the village may give FSI a 60-day notice to cancel the contract with cause but feels they should give FSI the right to remedy the situation first.
Council is asking that residents with a complaint about trash service send a signed letter to Councilman Mike Oberlander by the Oct. 15 meeting. Council then will compile a list of improvements to be made before action is taken.
Village Administrator Crystal Fields said the street sealing project is in progress. She also reported tile is to be replaced from 406-412 Washington St. and a tile situation near the American Legion hall has been remedied by compacting it with fill dirt so there will be no further collapse.
Mayor Bruce Lambert thanked Police Chief Don Holmer for the job he is doing upon completion of his probationary period,
Holmer said a block watch meeting set for Oct. 16 has been cancelled and the group does not plan to resume until January. The radar trailer repairs have been finished and it is in service moving about the village. Repairs to the cruiser are to be done also.
Following up discussion during the last council meeting, members decided the stop sign at the alley next to the Masonic Temple should remain.
Fiscal Officer Monique Delaney presented a cash summary by fund report. The finance committee is set to meet immediately after the next council meeting.
In other action, council passed an ordinance adopting fees and charges for administrative, police and utilities.
Council also heard resident Ryan Price ask about discolored water for a period, and learned water tower repairs were being made.
Council meets next at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15.
