Thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous donor, Honor Flight Northwest Ohio has scheduled a special flight Oct. 23 for veterans of the Vietnam War.
The final regularly-scheduled flight for 2012 took place Wednesday; however, the family of a deceased World War II veteran approached Honor Flight President Lee Armstrong and asked him to extend the season.
It was the veteran's wish to "pay tribute to those who served during the Vietnam War and to honor his son, who passed away much too young," Armstrong said.
Vietnam veterans will be selected for the flight based on their date of application. Some have been on the waiting list since 2008. Honor Flight will begin calling veterans who have submitted applications this weekend. Remaining openings will be filled by newly received applications.
No family members will be permitted on the flight, and special "guides" will accompany the Vietnam veterans.
