Prep Volleyball Roundup: St.?Wendelin picks up first MAL?win

FOSTORIA - It was four close games, but St. Wendelin was on the good side of three of them to claim its first Midland Athletic League win of the season, topping Old Fort 25-22, 25-20, 28-30, 25-21.

Colleen Fondessy led St. Wendelin (5-9, 1-6 MAL) with 15 kills and three blocks. Catrina Lang added six kills. Meghan Reiter dished out 14 assists. Five Mohawks hit double-digits in digs led by Adrienne Emerine with 18. Fondessy added 17, Lang came up with 13 and Georgia Kitchen and Taylor Lucius had 10 each.

Kristin Bender slammed 24 kills, and came up with 20 digs on the defensive end to lead Old Fort (2-12, 2-5). Sam Hartsel added nine. Krista Ward led with 22 assists with Sara Bell adding 21. Shelby Bigler chipped in 24 digs.

Mohawk rolls to another MAL win

ATTICA - Kasey Adelsperger's 18 kills fueled Mohawk's 25-8, 25-7, 25-14 victory over Seneca East. Julie Adelsperger had nine kills and Sarah Parker chipped in eight. Ashley Parker set them up to the tune of 34 assists.

Defensively for Mohawk (12-2, 7-0 Midland Athletic League), Lynsey Trusty led with 10 digs, Julie Adelsperger and Ashley Parker each had seven.

Seneca East (5-11, 3-4) was led by Kristen Bowerman with five kills. Holly Bordner and Mykayla Ruffing each had five digs. Samantha Miller chipped in five assists.

Buckettes now 9-0 in NCC

ONTARIO - Maddie Williams nearly turned in a double-double in her full-time return from an illness Thursday as Buckeye Central dropped North Central Conference foe Ontario 25-10, 25-16, 25-14.

Williams registered 11 digs and pounded nine aces and six kills for the Buckettes (15-2), who remained perfect in the NCC at 9-0.

Sammi Marcum hammered 16 kills, Jenna Delarber smacked six kills and three blocks, Emily Weithman had 12 assists and seven kills and Brooke Karl came up with 24 digs.

Balanced attack leads Calvert

BASCOM - Three Calvert Senecas topped 10 kills as Calvert prevailed in four over Hopewell-Loudon 25-19, 23-25, 28-26, 25-20. Haley Felter and Amber Perry shared the team-high for Calvert with 14 kills each. Meridith Lucius added 12, to go with 31 digs on the defensive end. Jordan Gase added seven kills.

"We just keep getting production across the board, freshmen to seniors, they have bought into team-first and its showing on the court. I'm so proud of these girls," Calvert coach Greg Hendrix said.

Kelsey Hendrix led the Calvert defense with 33 digs. Kaleigh Hendrix dished out 47 assists.

Calvert improves to 9-4, 7-0 MAL.

Courtney Burns and Racquel Hossler each had a triple-double for H-L (6-12, 3-4).

Burns (2 solo blocks) led the way with 16 kills, 27 assists, 10 digs and three aces, and Hossler (2 aces) had 12 kills, 15 digs and 22 assists.

Logan Frank (3 assists) and Kassie Shaver (2 aces) each added 15 kills and 10 digs for the Chieftains. Shelbi Sauber (3 kills) added 31 digs.

New Riegel escapes St. Joe with win

FREMONT - It took five games, but New Riegel bounced Fremont St. Joe in Midland Athletic League play Thursday night, 25-10, 23-25, 25-17, 13-25, 15-11.

Lauren Ladd brought the hammer with 26 kills. Kara Scherger had 21 kills and 39 digs while Taylor Arbogast drilled 18 kills and dug up 24 balls. Cassandra Acree had 49 assists and 22 digs. Brittany Gillig had 19 digs and Morgan Noftz had 13 for the Blue Jackets (14-1, 6-1).

Tong-led Devils drop Bettsville

BETTSVILLE - Hanna Tong drilled 17 kills and nine aces Thursday to fuel Carey's 25-6, 25-6, 25-11 Midland Athletic League win over Bettsville.

Tong also had six blocks and seven digs for the Blue Devils (10-4, 5-2 MAL), who also got 31 assists and four aces from Sydney Wentling.

Adrienne Heckler chipped in 10 digs, Mackenzie Wentling had eight digs, Shelby Kin belted five kills and Shelby Seifert (2 blocks) tallied seven digs and four kills.

Rams throttle Crestline

CRESTLINE - Crestline couldn't muster 25 points in one game let alone three combined as Upper Sandusky smoked the Bulldogs, 25-4, 25-6, 25-12, in North Central Conference play.

Taylor Graboski had 18 kills, four aces and three blocks for the Rams (12-3, 7-2 NCC). Jenna Holly had seven aces and 13 digs while her sister Jessi had five aces and eight kills. Allison Snyder had 21 assists and Emma Smith had 12. Kalene Johnson had seven kills in the victory.

Lakota shuts down NB

NORTH BALTIMORE - Stephanie Miller and Katie Park smashed 10 kills each, Destiny Long Meyer had nine kills and Lakota swept North Baltimore, 25-12, 25-17, 25-10.

Lakota (5-9, 3-4 Midland Athletic League) also got 11 digs from Alaina Bickford.
