Carey takes own invite

CAREY - While Calvert's Morgan Smith won the race in 21:22, four runners in the top 10 for Carey led the Blue Devils to a first-place finish in the Carey Invitational Thursday night.

Jaclyn Troiano (4th, 21:35), Sarah Walter (7th, 22:26), Alivia Stephan (9th, 22:42) and Amber Spurlock (10th, 22:50) paced the Carey assault to give the Blue Devils 43 points. Calvert was second with 57 while Elmwood was a distant third with 75.

Sydney Berlekamp (22:17) was sixth for Calvert, while her teammate Marisa Horn finished eighth in 22:35 to back Smith's effort.

On the boys side, Elmwood (42) edged Carey (49) despite Van Buren's Zach Wehrle (17:11) and Joel Schumacker (17:15) finishing one and two respectively. Van Buren (76) was third, a point better than Calvert.

Carey had three runners finish in the top 10: Brayden Leist (4th, 18:00), Zach Logsdon (6th, 18:14) and Ben Kromer (8th, 18:25).

Austin Schultz paced Calvert with a third-place finish in 17:48. Ren Boehler (18:46) and Shane Boehler (19:08) were 13th and 15th for the Senecas.
