Prep Golf: Blue Jackets advance to the district tournament as a team

ARLINGTON - New Riegel captured the third and final qualifying spot Thursday and two Carey players made it out as individuals at the Division III sectional tournament at Sycamore Springs.

The Blue Jackets fired a 342 to advance to the district, set for Thursday at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green.

Van Buren beat Allen East 314-335 for the team championship. The top three teams and top four players not on those teams gained district berths.

Brady Hall's 80 and Korey Williams' 81 paced New Riegel, with Andrew Hohman adding an 87 and Brandyn Reinhart shooting a 94. Lance Smith (100) also played for the Blue Jackets.

Columbus Grove took fourth over Carey via a tiebreaker after both carded a 348.

However, Carey's Corbin Blair fired a 79 and Lincoln Stansberry had an 82 to gain individual trips to the district.

St. Wendelin came in sixth with a 361, led by Joey DeHaven's 87 and Kieran Campbell's 88.

No one moves on from Green Hills

CLYDE - No area teams or players advanced from Thursday's Division III sectional at Green Hills.

Old Fort led the local contingent by upending Lakota 375-385 for ninth. Bettsville (475) came in 11th out of 12 teams.

Brad Heilman gave Old Fort an 89 and Matt Hill shot a 93.

Lakota's Nathan Ray carded an 88 and Kevin Woodruff chipped in a 94.

Tommy Kipps had a 105 for Bettsville and Ryan Hager tallied a 112.

Ottawa Hills scorched the course for a title round of 295, with Woodmore upending Fremont St. Joe 318-322 for second.

The top three teams and top four players qualified for the district set for Thursday at Stone Ridge in Bowling Green.

Cardinal Stritch's Sam Harrison (74), Crestline's Brian Barnett (78) and Colonel Crawford's Mitch Cook (80) all made it out as individuals. Sandusky St. Mary's Colin Crooks survived three holes of sudden-death over Gibsonburg's Adam Need for the final individual spot after each ended regulation with an 81.

Season ends for Fostoria

KALIDA - Fostoria had only three players compete and none of them advanced Thursday at the Division II sectional at Country Acres.

Austin Cornell shot a 97 for FHS, with Redmen Robby Crotty (117) and Luke Leonard (167) also hitting the course.

Van Wert beat Napoleon 325-331 for the team title, with Bryan (335) taking the third and final district team berth.
