Elva Kelley, 55, of Palestine, W.Va., departed this life Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at his residence.

He was born May 12, 1957, in West Hamlin, W.Va., a son of Burley Kelley and the late Romaine (Rakes) Kelley.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his niece, Rhonda (Adams) Woddy; three nephews, infant Joe Taylor, Patrick Lee Adams and Joey Allen Taylor; one aunt, Inez Carter; and his father-in-law, Dewey Tomblin Jr.

Elva loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, vacationing and playing "Euke" with Steve and Deb Payne.

In addition to his father, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Nora (Tomblin) Kelley of Palestine; his six children, Kernie Sue (Chris) Deringer of Forest, Kenneth Ray (Tiny) Kelley of Dingess, W.Va., Kari (Stan) Kelley of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Kayla (Jon) McKee, Nora R. Deringer-Kelley and Debra L. Deringer-Kelley, all of Palestine, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Rebeka "Beka-Boo" Michelle McKee of Palestine, W.Va., Anna Bell Deringer of Forest and Daniel Lee McKee of Sycamore; five brothers, Clyde Delmar (Sue) Kelley of Crawley Creek, W.Va., Raymond (Rachel) Kelley of Branchland, W.Va., Burley (Vickie) Kelley of Huntington, W.Va., Floyd Kelley of Wayne, W.Va., and Jerry Roberson of Alabama; eight sisters, Donzel (Ronnie) Adams of Harts, W.Va., Marie (Tim) Kirk Taylor of Hamlin, W.Va., Weltha Kelley of Wyoming, W.Va., Elzinia (Possum) Ferrell of Monaville, W.Va., Mondella Kelley of Huntington, W.Va., Kathy Townsend of Louisiana, Mary (Tubby) Workman of Branchland, W.Va., and Shelia (Bobby) Basadre of Chapmanville, W.Va.; his mother-in-law, Kernie Carter Tomblin of Palestine, W.Va.; one brother-in-law, Dewey R. (Sandy) Tomblin of Sheffield Lake; four sisters-in-law, Regina (Leonard) Hallman of North Ridgeville, Tonya (Terry) Morrison of Palestine, W.Va., Jody Darby of Lorain, and Juanita (Richard) Cope of Palestine, W.Va.; one uncle, William Carter of Sycamore; and loved by many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

His funeral will be 1 p.m. today, Sept. 27, 2012, at Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, W.Va., with the Rev. Elbert Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery at Hoover of Big Harts of Logan County, W.Va. Pall bearers will be family and friends.

Visitation was 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
