Prep Volleyball Roundup: Carey cages Tigers

CAREY - Carey served 21 aces and had two players turn in double-doubles Tuesday in a 25-14, 25-7, 25-12 Midland Athletic League win over Seneca East.

Hanna Tong led the charge with 14 kills, 11 digs and three blocks, and was one of four Blue Devils (9-4, 4-2 MAL) who served four aces.

Sydney Wentling, Logan Johnson and Shelby Seifert also each drilled four aces, with Seifert adding 11 digs, 10 kills and two blocks.

Wentling handed out 26 assists, Johnson had 12 digs and Mackenzie Wentling pounded three aces.

Mohawk still perfect in MAL

FREMONT - Mohawk remained unbeaten in Midland Athletic League play by dispatching of Fremont St. Joe in three games, 25-21, 25-12, 25-19. Sarah Parker slammed 17 kills to lead the Warriors. Kasey Adelsperger added nine while Julie and Clara Adelsperger each had six.

Ashley Parker dished out 38 assists while adding five kills of her own.

Defensively, Lynsey Trusty had 15 digs, Julie Adelsperger had 12 and Taylor McClain had nine.

Mohawk improves to 11-2, 6-0.

Calvert keeps its focus

Calvert kept pace atop the Midland Athletic League standings by dropping St. Wendelin in three, 25-14, 25-17, 25-18. Jordan Gase led the Senecas with eight kills while Amber Perry was right behind her with seven. Perry also had four blocks.

"This was a trap game," said Calvert coach Greg Hendrix. "The girls needed to stay focused on the games at hand this week and forget about the big picture, and they did that tonight."

Also for Calvert (9-4, 6-0), Kaleigh Hendrix had 27 assists and four aces. Kelsey Hendrix paced the defense with 15 digs, to go along with three aces.

Colleen Fondessy had seven kills to lead St. Wendelin. She also had six blocks. Becca Starn had eight blocks. Georgia Kitchen led with 15 digs.

St. Wendelin drops to 4-9, 0-6.

New Riegel routs North Baltimore

NEW RIEGEL - As the match went on, the margin of victory got wider, until the final game was barely competitive. New Riegel trounced North Baltimore 25-14, 25-8, 25-3.

Lauren Ladd's 11 kills led the Blue Jackets. She also added six digs and four blocks. Kara Scherger added eight kills and Taylor Arbogast seven. Cassandra Acree set the up with 26 assists, to go along with three aces.

Scherger led New Riegel (13-1, 5-1) defensively with seven digs.

Also for New Riegel, Natalie Reinhart had four aces and Morgan Noftz had three. Alexis Kieffer had four kills.

Raiders slam Stockaders

KANSAS - Katie Park and Rachel Feick each slammed 13 kills for Lakota, as the Raiders downed Old Fort 25-13, 25-27, 25-21, 25-13.

Stephanie Miller and Makayla Kiser each posted double-doubles. Miller dished out 22 assists and picking up 16 digs on the defensive end. Kiser had 13 assists and 10 digs, to go along with four kills.

Alaina Bickford led the Raider defense with 19 digs.

Old Fort's Kristin Bender had a game-high 19 kills. Krista Ward had 24 assists and Shelby Bigler had 24 digs.

Lakota improves to 3-9, 2-4 MAL. Old Fort drops to 2-11, 2-4.

Buckettes cruise to stay perfect in NCC

NEW WASHINGTON - Sammi Marcum approached a double-double and two junior varsity players filled in well for an ill Maddie Williams as Buckeye Central dominated Crestline 25-5, 25-11, 25-13 in North Central Conference play.

Marcum led the way with 12 kills and eight digs for the Buckettes (14-2), who moved to 8-0 in the NCC.

Libero Brooke Karl backed her with 14 digs, three aces and two kills, and Emily Weithman had 21 assists and four kills.

Kendra Schultz lined five kills and Jenna Delarber belted four on only five swings.

Natalie Dentinger and Hailey Hildebrand stepped up from the JV ranks to fill in for Williams. Dentinger served 15 times in the third game, drilling two aces and two kills, while Hildebrand slammed six kills.

H-L overwhelms Bettsville

BETTSVILLE - Courtney Burns belted 10 kills and Racquel Hossler handed out 15 assists Tuesday as Hopewell-Loudon stormed past Midland Athletic League foe Bettsville 25-9, 25-7, 25-15.

Burns (2 block assists, solo block) also had six digs and five assists for H-L and Hossler smacked six aces and three kills.

Kassie Shaver (2 assists) came up with 10 digs for the Chieftains (6-11, 3-3 MAL), Logan Frank (solo block) hammered seven kills and six aces and Kassie Welly (2 assists) turned in 10 digs.
