TU?to add swimming and diving

September 26, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

For the third time in four years, Tiffin University is adding an athletic program.

After recently adding women's lacrosse and wrestling as varsity sports, TU will offer men's and women's swimming and diving beginning in the 2013-14 season.

"For us, it's a GLIAC sponsored sport, and gives us a chance to grow our athletic department," Tiffin Athletic Director Lonny Allen said. "I just love this league, and we want to have as many student athletes enjoying that experience."

When asked if the Dragons would start recruiting right away, Allen said they would. But first, the school has to hire a coach.

"We've got the job placement out, and we're looking to get resumes in and have a coach hired by hopefully mid-October."

That coach will have a big responsibility. He or she not only will oversee the men's and women's programs, but will have to build them from scratch.

"You definitely want somebody who has some experience, probably somebody who has just a little experience because of the nature of the job," Allen said. "Starting a program, you need somebody who's high energy, can hit the ground running, go to meets recruiting and beat the pavement."

TU will use the Tiffin YMCA for practice and competition.
