Mike Hull of Tiffin is a diabetic who has been undergoing cancer treatments for more than a year. His relatives and friends are organizing a rummage sale 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-noon Sunday in Elizabeth Schaefer gymnasium.
Proceeds from the sale are to be donated to Hull.
"The benefit this weekend is going to be set up just like the Friends' Market. It might even have a few extra things," said Amber Herbert, one of the organizers.
The "extras" include a bake sale, art exhibit and lunch stand. A "Team Hull" Facebook page has been set up to list fundraising efforts being done for Hull. His multiple health issues forced him to give up his truck-driving job. Several family members live out of town and are not always able to assist him.
"Mike currently is undergoing cancer treatment. Also, he fell and broke both of his legs because of the chemo," Herbert said. "He's got 3-4 months of complete bed rest - no walking or moving at all."
Insurance only covers a portion of Hull's expenses which continue to pile up. T-shirts and wrist bands are to be available for purchase at the sale this weekend.
"It has really been a huge financial strain on the family," Herbert said.
A benefit spaghetti dinner for Hull also is in the planning stages. It is to take place 4-8 p.m. Oct. 20 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 131 E. Perry St., Tiffin. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-10.
More details are to be announced.
