Joseph F. Tomsey, 86, of Bascom, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
He was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Hicksville to Joseph F. and Rosa (Ruzek) Tomsey. He married Alice I. Talbott on Aug. 24, 1949, in Fostoria and she survives him.
Also surviving are his three sons, Michael D. (Christina) Tomsey of Church Falls, Va., Joseph F. Tomsey and Stanley L. Tomsey, both of Huntington, W.Va.; three daughters, Frances (Robin) Wagner of Debary, Fla., Pat Tomsey of Bradenton, Fla., and Teresa (Jeffery) Miles of Bascom; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Tomsey; and a sister, Frances Tomsey.
Mr. Tomsey was a U.S. Navy veteran, having proudly served his country in both WWII and again during the Vietnam era as a chief hospital man, retiring after more than 28 years of service. He was also a paramedic for Atlas Crankshaft for 10 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of USN Fleet Reserve Organization, VFW and Moose and Eagles lodges, all in Fostoria.
There will be no visitation or services as Mr. Tomsey's wishes were to be buried at sea by the U.S. Navy.
Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, has been entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a donation be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 N. Randolph St., Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203.
