A man sustained life-threatening injuries when his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle in Pleasant Township Saturday afternoon.

Trooper Justin Powell of the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol said Richard W. Froelich, 63, of Luckey, first was taken to Mercy Tiffin Hospital by Tiffin Fire Rescue Division and then was taken by Life Flight to Summa Akron City Hospital. He was in serious condition Saturday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

He had been in critical condition, and his injuries were life-threatening, Powell said.

A motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle on CR 33 Saturday afternoon.

Froelich had been driving a 1984 BMW R100RT motorcycle northbound on CR 33.

Powell said a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kristopher A. Collins, 28, of Fremont, was southbound on CR 33, started to turn left into a private drive and turned in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the side of the SUV, he said.

Powell said Froelich was wearing a helmet. Collins was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, he said.

The accident, which occurred north of TR 138, was reported at 1:52 p.m. Saturday.

Personnel from Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Green Springs EMS, Old Fort Volunteer Fire Department, Seneca County's Echo unit, Seneca County Sheriff's Office, State Highway Patrol and Tiffin Fire Rescue Division were dispatched to the accident.

No citations had been issued Saturday, and the crash was under investigation.
