Robert L. Eckert, 91, of Tiffin, died at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.
Robert was born June 12, 1921, in Seneca County, to Reuben and Pauline (Lorentz) Eckert. He married Ruth F. Lucius June 11, 1941, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, and she died Oct. 22, 2006.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Carrick of Indianapolis, Ind., and Elaine Elchert of Findlay; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beatrice Lynch and Martha Bland, both of Fostoria.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Eckert; and two sisters, Margaret Finsel and Kathryn Funk.
Mr. Eckert served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Bronze Star. He retired as a machinist at National Machinery Company, after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Quarter Century Club, and the American Legion. He was proud to have flown on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in June 2011.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113, followed by his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin. The rosary will be recited in church 20 minutes prior to Mass. The Rev. Gary Walters will officiate and burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Tiffin. The United Veterans Council will perform military rites at the cemetery.
