V-S board sets 2 open houses

The Vanguard-Sentinel Career & Technology Centers board announced public open house events 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in Tiffin and Oct. 18 in Fremont during the regular meeting Thursday evening. Superintendent Greg Edinger said a dedication of the newly constructed Fremont buildings and regular board meeting will also be part of the program Oct. 18.

Director of Adult Workforce Development Rosemary Krieger presented results of a recent 2012 survey from the Ohio Board of Regents from students comparing state and local responses on topics regarding programs, recommendations, instructors and perceptions. Krieger said much of what students learned about the centers was through word-of-mouth.

Sentinel Director Elissa Heal explained the cooperative staff evaluation system.

The board approved a financial forecast representing 2013-2017, monthly financial reports and an appropriation resolution for $17,502,704.68. Treasurer Alan Binger explained projections regarding staffing updates, final construction payments, lower interest rates, reduced state funding and real estate taxes. Binger said a new funding formula is expected from the state which also may have an impact on the forecast.

In other business the board:

Approved certified staff advances on salary schedule for Tonya Breidenbach, Anthony Darr, LaDonna Kay Fausey, Mark King and Brian Moreland.

Granted supplemental contracts to Steven Brown, Helen Arriaga and Kathleen Ayres.

Approved first semester travel for September November for staff.

Adopted a board policy for staff dress and grooming and the staff handbook.

Approved permanent improvements and equipment purchases from American Interiors, Toledo, for $41,461.96.

Approved agreement with Valley Electric Co., Fremont, as the provider of electrical services in conjunction with the Vanguard Tech Center Electrical Trades program at an hourly rate not to exceed $91.35 per hour for an estimation of 250 hours maximum.

The board is to meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Fremont facility.
