Potential cruiser for Attica fails inspection

ATTICA - Attica council members learned the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Police Chief Keith Turner had been authorized to purchase did not pass inspection due to a need for major repairs. He is to continue seeking a second cruiser for the department.

Turner will be advertising for sealed bids on a 2001 Chevrolet and they must be received by Oct. 11.

Council approved hiring Charles Ojeda as a reserve officer. He lives in Norwalk and is bilingual, which could benefit the department.

Councilman Jeff Painter said he has noticed more abandoned vehicles without tags sitting in the village and requested Turner to investigate.

Village Administrator Greg Martin said he is to travel to Columbus with engineer Marvin Gnagy to discuss the village's trihalomethane plan with the Ohio EPA.

He said hydrant flushing for the system begins Sept. 24 and may last all week.

Fiscal Officer Pat Krebs said funds totaled $808,645.59. The annual payment of $155,633.50 to the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Rural Development for the water treatment plant is due Oct. 1. She is to attend a fiscal officer training session Oct. 4 and is to participate in a UAN accounting/payroll self study program starting Jan. 1.

Krebs asked all departments and committees to formulate their future needs in determining the 2013 appropriations.

Painter is obtaining quotes for tree trimming and said some residents are willing to share costs with the village for tree trimming.

Councilman Nate Frisch congratulated Sons of the Legion for a successful softball tournament.

The season's last farmers market is 8 a.m.-1p.m. Oct. 6 at Honey Creek Park. Painter said children are to receive a pumpkin to participate in a pumpkin carving contest and apple cider and hot dogs for refreshments.
