Clarence "Porky" B. Straub, 75, of Bloomville, died at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, surrounded by his loving family.
Porky was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Tiffin, the youngest of 17 children born to the late Henry and Mollie (Klingshirn) Straub. Porky graduated in 1955 from Tiffin Columbian High School and then served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959. He married Sharon Lee (Hemmerly) Holt April 2, 1960, they later divorced and she survives in Bloomville. They have two daughters, Lynda (Dale) Cole and Amy (Dave) Walker, both of Tiffin.
He married Marcille (Lang) Kirby, presently of Bloomville, May 18, 1980, and she has two daughters, Kelly Kirby (Jake) Fitzpatrick and Kerry Kirby (James) Adkins, both of Sycamore.
Other survivors include his two brothers, Lloyd (Loretta) Straub of Tiffin and Albert Straub of Reeseville, S.C.; three sisters, Rosemary Huff of Fostoria, Bernice Payne of Upper Sandusky and Dorothy (William) Lake of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren, Shaunna, Leslie, Olivia and Damien Dickman, Sharon Rose Byer, Daniel and Erica Walker, Nathan Feasel, Travis "Pete" and Taylor Fitzpatrick and Shannon and Heather Cole.
After 23 years, Porky retired from Delta Airlines to return to the Tiffin area to be with family and friends. He then worked at Ameriwood for another four years. He was a member of Tiffin Moose Lodge 846, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 402, a life member of AMVETS Post No. 48 and the DAV chapter 34 and a social member of American Legion Post No. 169 and VFW Post No. 2858.
After his time at Delta and the United States Air Force, Porky was able to travel to many countries and to experience many different cultures. He liked to travel but he loved home best. Porky was happy watching birds, playing golf and having breakfast at the Moose on Sundays with friends, Bill and Diane Puesey, Lloyd and Loretta Straub and Donna Magers. Porky was the happiest enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; watching them play sports, teaching them board games and sharing tea parties with the girls. He had a life well lived!
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-1221. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin, with military honors being rendered by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation for family and friends will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Veterans Council, Bliss Memorial Library, Bloomville or to the Palliative Care Unit at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.
