Orrin W. Van Ness, 97, of Clyde, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Riverview Nursing Home, Oak Harbor.
Mr. Van Ness was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Hessville, to Emmitt and Elizabeth (Spieldenner) Van Ness. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He married Leona Keegan June 3, 1940, and she preceded him in death July 13, 1981.
Surviving are a son, Daniel Van Ness of Clyde; a daughter, Sandra Marshall of Bellevue; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ken Van Ness of Sandusky.
Mr. Van Ness was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings, Lou Spieldenner, Jim Van Ness, Roy Van Ness, Earl Van Ness, Alberta Hotz, Mary Rufty, Midge Waldella, Elizabeth Nieset and Ethel Young.
Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde.
His funeral is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, with military honors provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.
