Tiffin City Council Recreation and Public Property Committee members had no issues with continuing an agreement to lease unused land at Eagle Rock Business Park for farming.
With a vote of 3-0, members agreed to have Law Director Brent Howard prepare legislation for a 5-year lease of the 67.5 acres of land by farmer Ronald Crum. Crum has farmed the land for more than 10 years, having renewed the agreement three times.
The terms of the lease have not changed, and include language that requires Crum to have insurance on the property, limit crops to wheat and beans, and pay $75 an acre per year.
The lease requires the city give 30 days notice if plans call to build on the land, and board members commented that any potential project would be planned far enough in advance to keep from interfering with Crum's operation.
Board members agreed the situation was good for both parties, as it keeps the city from having to pay to take care of the land.
