With the Heritage Festival and fall approaching, the American Civil War Museum of Ohio has events planned.
Friday, the museum is to host a showing of the film "Glory" sponsored by Reineke Family Dealerships. "Glory" features Denzel Washington and depicts the Massachusetts 54th, the first all-black regiment to fight in the Civil War for the Union. The movie is the PG version and admission is $3, which includes access to the museum before and after the showing. Active-duty military and their immediate family are admitted free.
In October, the museum is to host "Museum by Night" lantern tours. Lantern tours present the museum in a different perspective with some reports of sightings not normally seen in the daylight.
Now on display is the recently acquired "Ohio Leads" exhibit on loan from the Hayes Memorial Museum in Fremont. "Ohio Leads" highlights Ohio's role in the Civil War. Another unique display is "Andrew's Raiders," an exhibit depicting a covert action by which Union soldiers planned to steal a locomotive in Atlanta, Ga., and destroy Confederate supply lines along the route. Also, on loan from Gilmore Ordinances in Old Fort, an 1800s Hotchkiss Mountain Gun is being prepped for display.
Starting Oct. 1, hours are noon-4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
