Gorrell-led H-L takes second shootout

Bryce Gorrell finished a stroke away from a three-way tie for medalist honors, but his 39 sparked Hopewell-Loudon's win in the second Midland Athletic League Shootout on Thursday at Mohawk Country Club.

The Gorrell-led Chieftains upended North Baltimore, 169-175, for the win, with St. Wendelin nipping New Riegel, 178-179, for third.

Calvert edged Mohawk, 184-185, for fifth, and Carey held off Seneca East 190-194 for seventh.

The placings will help determine the league's overall team champion later this year.

Calvert's Jeremy Hanna and Seneca East's Nate Phillips each fired a 38 to share top individual honors.

Aric Creeger backed Gorrell with a 41 for H-L.

St. Wendelin got a 39- from Kieran Campbell, New Riegel's Andrew Hohman had a 44, Braydon Dunlop carded a 41 for Mohawk, and Carey's Corbin Blair carded a 41.

TC still winless

Columbian saw its record drop to 0-6 after falling to Shelby 169-174. Alex Kreinbrink's 37 paved the way to victory for the Whippets.

TC (0-6) was paced by Bryce Creamer and Jack Burkes, who each shot 41s. T.J. Wickham added a 44 while Mason McCool fired a 48.

For Shelby (3-2) backing Kreinbrink was Sam Boyce with a 40.

Bulldogs stay perfect in NCC

GALION - Crestline stayed perfect in conference play Thursday by downing North Central Conference foe Buckeye Central, 179-185 at Valley View.

Brian Barnett keyed the Bulldogs (7-0 NCC) with a medalist round of 41.

The Bucks (3-3, 2-3 NCC) got a 43 from Eric Heydinger and twin 46s from Adam McGinnis and Tanner Zaebst.

Mohawk girls 6-0

UPPER SANDUSKY - The Mohawk girls stayed unbeaten with a 219-247 victory Buckeye Central at Lincoln Hills. Katelyn Kinley fired a 51 to lead the Warriors. She was followed closely behind by Brooke Weininger with a 55, Michaela Cook who shot a 56 and Chelsea Clinger with a 57.

For Buckeye Central, Lydia Shealy led with a 55, Megan McGinnis carded a 60, Maddie Fagan shot 62 and C.C. Stover shot 70.
