Choral Society seeking singers

September 6, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

FREMONT The Terra Choral Society is preparing for its new season. The opening rehearsal was Tuesday for interested singers to experience the choir and meet its musical staff. Singers interested in joining could register at the rehearsal.

TCS serves as the community/student chorus-in-residence at Terra State Community College. Composed of more than 100 student and community singers across five northwest Ohio counties, membership ranges from high school students to adults.

TCS is conducted by Michael Shirtz and accompanied by the college's Chamber Arts Orchestra. The group also collaborates annually in performances with regional arts organizations and schools. The chorus has performed with such artists as Joyce Carolyn, C. Andrew Blosser, Elizabeth Von Trapp and Jane Eaglen, and appears annually with the Firelands Symphony.

TCS's 2012-13 season includes concerts of its annual Holiday Festival "Spirit of the Season" in December, a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony "Joyful, Joyful" in February with the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, and concludes in April with a concert of masterworks titled "Music That Changed the World!" In November, TCS is to present a special concert for the inauguration of Terra's new president.

Registration for TCS is $30 per semester or $50 for the year. High school and senior discounts apply.

For more information, call the music department at (419) 559-2233.
