Betty Jane Wilson, 93, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, with family by her side.
Betty Jane married her beloved husband, John E. Wilson, May 4, 1945. They had four children, Scott (Dianna) Wilson of Fostoria, James (Ellen) Wilson of San Diego, Calif., Jack (Catina) Wilson of Pensacola, Fla., and Brenda (David) Auble of Bloomville.
John and Betty have 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Betty Jane was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Fostoria, to Henry and Ocie (Strope) Barchus. She grew up in Fostoria, graduating from Fostoria High School in 1936 at the heart of the Depression. Immediately following graduation, she worked as a secretary for her alma mater and later for Atlas Crankshaft. After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941, she moved to Dayton and worked as a secretary for the Army Air Corp at Wright-Patterson Air Base.
Betty Jane was married to her loving husband for 63 years and raised four children as a stay-at-home mom while helping her husband run the family business, Wilson's Shell on the corner of Main and South streets in Fostoria.
She was a baseball mom, president of the school PTA, a Sunday school teacher and always there for her family, whether with a warm meal, a warm hug or a Band-Aid for the knee or heart.
Betty Jane was a perfect example of the "Greatest Generation." She grew up during the Great Depression, became a family bread winner at 17, left the comforts of home to support the war effort at 22 and was devoted to her parents, husband, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids for 93 years.
We are saddened now in her passing, but her quick smile lives on in our hearts.
Betty Jane was preceded in death by her husband; parents, four sisters, Nellie, Florence, Julia and Mildred; and three brothers, Hiram, Herman and Harold.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, 301 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830, (419) 435-8118, with the Rev. Paul Myers officiating.
Burial will follow at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
