Bettsville brings losing streak to an end

BETTSVILLE - The zero in Bettsville's win column was there far too long.

After going winless in 2011, the Bobcats snapped their skid Thursday by beating Danbury 25-12, 25-23, 25-13.

"We took advantage of their mistakes," Bettsville coach Laura Gangluff said. "We really hustled tonight and played well as a team. We had great communication and I'm really proud of how we served tonight."

Brittney Koch paced the Bobcats with nine kills, five aces and two blocks. Maranda Bisson backed her with six kills, four aces and four blocks. Macie Harvey and Taylor Traut each added five kills.

Also for Bettsville (1-1), Melissa Harrison dished out 19 assists. Morgan Stump delivered 10 to go along with four kills. Erin Smalley led with nine digs. Abby Orwig chipped in three kills and five digs.

Warriors power off

TOLEDO - Sarah Parker and Kasey Adelsperger combined for 28 kills Thursday as Mohawk overpowered Toledo Christian, 25-10, 25-21, 25-12.

Parker (2 aces) tallied 15 kills and eight digs for the Warriors (3-1) and Adelsperger added 13 kills.

Ashley Parker backed them with 31 assists and five digs, Lynsey Trusty came up with 10 digs, Taylor McClain had nine digs and three aces, Clara Adelsperger turned in seven digs and three assists, Julie Adelsperger chipped in five kills and Aubrie Flood lined three kills.

Blue Jackets coast

NEW RIEGEL - Lauren Ladd and Kara Scherger each pounded 11 kills and Cassandra Acree tossed up 23 assists in Thursday's 25-10, 25-2, 25-11 whipping of Van Buren.

Ladd also served four aces, Scherger had 10 digs and Taylor Arbogast hammered nine kills for the Blue Jackets (3-0).

Bucks even up mark

NEW WASHINGTON - Sammi Marcum turned in a double-double and two teammates combined for 36 assists Thursday in a 25-23, 25-9, 25-23 North Central Conference win over Colonel Crawford.

Marcum led the way with 10 kills and 10 digs for the Buckettes (1-1, 1-0 NCC). Emily Weithman tallied 23 assists and four kills and Kilee Kimmel had 13 assists, seven digs, three aces and three kills.

Brooke Karl (2 aces) backed them with 26 digs, Maddie Williams (2 aces) had 11 kills and four digs and Jenna Delarber smashed six kills and four blocks.

H-L falls in four-set battle

ARLINGTON - Arlington held off Hopewell-Loudon just enough Thursday to record a 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20 win.

Courtney Burns (2 block assists, solo block) paced H-L with 13 kills and 15 digs, and Racquel Hossler added 14 assists, seven kills and seven digs.

Cassie Welly backed them with 13 digs for the Chieftains (0-2), Shelbi Sauber chipped in 12 assists and six digs, Cassie Shaver (2 aces) had seven digs and four kills and Logan Frank (2 aces) registered six kills and six digs.

Rams even mark

UPPER SANDUSKY - Upper Sandusky responded from a season opening loss to win its North Central Conference opener against Ontario 25-13, 25-17, 25-12.

"The Lady Rams rebounded nicely from an opening loss to Mohawk and playing solid volleyball Thursday night," Ram coach Matthew McConnaughey said. "Defense improved, serving was aggressive and our offense was balanced."

Taylor Graboski slammed 23 kills while Jessi Holly added 12 while leading the team in digs with eight. Jenna Holly served up eight aces and Kalene Johnson added six. Allison Snyder dished out 29 assists.

Late start no help for TC

SHELBY - Bus trouble caused Columbian to arrive 90 minutes behind schedule to Thursday's match at Shelby and the late start did the Tornadoes no favors in a 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 Northern Ohio League loss.

Tessa Fuhrer's 11 assists paced TC (1-2, 0-2 NOL) and Megan Murphy added seven digs and four kills.
