OSS hazardous waste collection slated Sept. 8
FREMONT - Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca Joint Solid Waste District is sponsoring a household hazardous waste collection Sept. 8.
People with last names beginning with A-M are asked to drop off items 9-10:30 a.m. and last names N-Z 10:30 a.m.-noon.
The Seneca County drop-off site is the Agriculture Service Center rear parking lot, 3140 S. SR 100.
Residents are asked not to smoke and to stay in their vehicles during unloading.
No construction materials, shingles or asbestos materials are to be accepted.
Materials from businesses or institutions also are not to be accepted.

Clean Sweep collects 2.3 tons of trash locally
Results are in for the Sandusky River Clean Sweep that took place Aug. 18.
Andria Marquis, one of the coordinators, said 252 volunteers helped to clean more than 15 sites in or along the river.
From those sites were cleaned 43 tires and 2.3 tons of trash. In addition, 1,480 pounds of scrap metal were recycled.
"Not bad for only three hours of work," she wrote in a Facebook post. "Can you imagine if the cleanup was an all-day event how much we would find?"
'Hunting with Heroes' sponsoring deer hunts
LIMA - The fourth annual Lt. Col. Ted Epple Veterans with Disabilities Bow Hunt is set for Nov. 9 and the second annual Dream Catchers Bow Hunt for disabled youth 17 and younger is to take place Oct. 27-28.
During these hunts, two deer were harvested in 2011, five deer in 2010 and three deer in 2009. Ten hunters participated in last year's adult hunt, and coordinators are hoping 20 hunters will participate this year.
Each hunter is to be paired with an experienced guide, and these guides offer whatever assistance may be needed in the field.
