Debra J. "Deb" Schumm, 55, of Republic, passed away Thursday morning, Aug. 23, 2012, at her home surrounded by family.
She was born Jan. 6, 1957, in Tiffin, to Marion E. and Chadyne F. (Goshe) Desgrange. On April 16, 1977, she married her high school sweetheart, George H. Schumm.
Survivors include her husband, George, of Republic; father, Marion; a son, Kevin (Shawna Imprasert) Schumm of Pickerington; a daughter, Laura (Justin) Miller of Columbus; a sister, Dorene Hoyda of Tiffin; and three sisters-in-law, Jane (Bill) Smith and Janet (Ray) Steinmetz, both of Tiffin, and Ann Casteluccio of Sawyer, Mich.
Preceding her in death is her mother, Chadyne.
Deb graduated from Calvert High School in 1975 and from Heidelberg University in 2003 with a master's degree in counseling. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Deb worked at Bucyrus Community Counseling for the past five years and loved her job and the friends she made while working there. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, camping and traveling. She enjoyed decorating and taking care of her home, which was published in the Country Sampler Magazine. Deb also loved animals, especially her dog Taffy, which preceded her in death.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be noon Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will be at a later date. The rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.
Friends may visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, and 10 a.m.-noon Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian wake service will begin at 8 p.m.
