UPPER SANDUSKY - Brandon Gibson won the boys race and a teammate finished in the top 10 Tuesday to help Columbian end third at the Upper Sandusky Ice Breaker.
Gibson crossed the line in 16:50.4 for the Tornadoes, who edged out Oak Harbor, 118-122, for third. Bay thumped Mount Gilead, 39-104, for the crown.
Chris Gates ran fifth (17:21) to back Gates.
Carey ended sixth (163) and Fostoria turned back Upper Sandusky 234-240 for 11th.
Dominic Solis paced Upper Sandusky by claiming 10th (17:40.1), Fostoria's Salvador Cantero ended 16th (17:58.3) and Brayden Leist finished 25th (18:25.9).
Columbian's girls took fourth with 149 points in their meet, with Carey ending sixth (172) and Upper Sandusky coming in 11th (299). Fostoria did not field a full time.
Carey's Sarah Walter led area runners by finishing 23rd (22:02.3), while Columbian's Chandler Carley (22:18.5) and Abrie Smith (22:20.2) ran 24th and 26th.
Raven Rodgers clocked in 36th (22:47.2) for Fostoria, and Upper Sandusky's Zoe Garber ended 71st (24:36.8).
Old Fort boys run 1-2 for third
WILLARD - Old Fort's Marcus Meyers and Brad Bannister took the top two spots Tuesday as the Stockaders finished third at the Willard Early Bird Invitational.
Meyers finished in 17:44 and Bannister ended in 18:01. Donald Young added a ninth (19:37) for Old Fort.
Norwalk took the title with 35 points, with Willard turning away the Stockaders 45-54 for second.
Old Fort's girls also took third, with Willard edging the Stockaders 55-56 for second. Norwalk took the title with 36 points.
Jackie Becker's second (21:52) and Kayal Garza's third (22:12) led the Stockaders, with Lexi Rhodes ending 10th (24:09).
Mohawk girls boot L-B
SYCAMORE - The Mohawk girls soccer team beat Liberty-Benton, 3-1, with Kim Danner, Cambria Kohlenberg and Sarah Runion each scoring a goal.
Kohlenberg had two assists for the Warriors and Danner added one.
Liberty-Benton had five shots on goal, with Mohawk's Liz Runion having four saves. Mohawk also had five shots on goal.
Eppard-led Genoa rolls
GENOA - Genoa opened the boys soccer season Tuesday with an 8-2 win over Old Fort.
Brad Eppard scored four goals for the Comets, Joshua Mabus scored three, and Nathan Wit added one. Garet Kimmet and Marc Salas each scored one goal for the Stockaders. Ryan Balliett had 14 saves for Old Fort.
Medalist not enough for Bucks in NCC?match
GALION - Adam McGinnis took medalist honors for Buckeye Central, but Crestline got the win Tuesday in a North Central Conference match at Valley View.
McGinnis fired a 40 to help the Bucks shoot 177.
However, the Bulldogs improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the NCC on the strength of Ryan Armstrong's 41 and Andy Lutz's 43.
Eric Heydinger backed McGinnis with a 43 for Buckeye Central (1-1, 1-1).
Williams ties for medalist, NR wins tri
New Riegel's Korey Williams tied for the day's best score with a 38, and New Riegel eased past Seneca East and Elmwood in a tri-match at Clinton Heights.
New Riegel shot a 161, outdistancing the Royals (176) and the Tigers (179).
Andrew Hohman (40), Lance Smith (41) and Brady Hall (42) backed Williams and pushed the Blue Jackets to 2-0.
Nate Phillips led the Tigers with 41.
Elmwood's Allen Dyar shot a 38 to tie for medalist.
