BETTSVILLE - Finishing touches were put on plans for the 2012-2013 school year at the Bettsville Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening.
The board heard the school's class schedule was completely overhauled, due to conflicts and discrepancies, and that positive changes are being implemented to create more academic time.
The board also heard about increased math requirements for the 2013-14 school year, which will be blended into the schedule in the future.
The resignation of board member Kelly Tiell was approved, effective Tuesday, and the board discussed the process of seeking a new board member to finish Tiell's term, which ends in 2013.
The board also approved the resignation of athletic director Mike Haynes, and the employment of Robert Justin Rohrer as athletic director, physical education teacher and cross country coach.
Bettsville's new superintendent, Gregg Pettit, applauded the addition of about nine students for the upcoming year. Pettit said he will continue advertising and marketing efforts to draw additional students to the school.
In other business:
Principal Michelle Dantuono said training is continuing for a new testing program. She praised two Bettsville students who worked at the school for the summer.
Employee and student handbooks were approved for the upcoming year.
Extracurricular and athletic policy handbooks were approved for 2012-13.
Financial reports and General Fund, payroll and Athletic Fund reconciliations for July 2012 were approved.
Three staff members were approved to dispense medication to students during the school year.
Lunchroom bids were approved and awarded to Toft's Dairy and Nickles Bakery.
Sub teacher and aide lists from North Central Ohio Educational Service Center for the school year were approved.
Board member Leslie Hunker was approved as delegate for the Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference in November.
Pettit was approved as purchasing agent director/coordinator of all title funds and as compliance officer for the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Torrie Ruiz was approved for public relations for the Summer Migrant Program.
Chad Garberich was approved as boys varsity basketball coach for the 2012-13 school year, and Duane Hammer as transportation coordinator.
Leigh Ann King was approved as dean of students for the upcoming year.
The board heard renovations at Vanguard-Sentinel are finished.
