Karin Brown has been a resident of Tiffin for decades, but she is to cook favorite foods from her native Germany for the Allen Eiry Senior Center's authentic German Dinner. Serving is to start at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Tiffin Amvets, 1909 S. SR 100.
Brown and her volunteers are to prepare leberkaese (pork and veal meatloaf), kartoffelbrei (mashed potatoes), Deursches sauerkraut, Deutsche laugen bretzel (salt pretzel made in Munich, baked in Tiffin), Rotweinkuchen mit Sahne (red wine) and cake with whipped cream.
Allen Eiry members also have donated merchandise and services for a silent auction during the evening. Items include a trio of stained glass items; a car care package; a woman's bath care set; and two designer handbags. Jewelry, scarves, greeting cards, floral arrangements, lamps and other decorative items also are being offered to the highest bidders.
