A country in distress

August 17, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

Several people have asked me why I have lowered my American flag to half-staff. "Did someone die?" they ask. I tell them, several weeks ago, in the span of only about one week, at least three outrageous acts took place. President Barack Obama used his executive privilege to prevent Attorney General Eric Holder from having to divulge his part (and others) in the "Fast and Furious" scandal. Look it up. That's the name given to the scandal where our own weapons were used by the Mexican drug cartel to murder our own border patrolman. Also, the Supreme Court upheld the illegal health care act. It ruled that the individual mandate part could be considered constitutional as a tax, but not as part of the commerce clause (even though the Dems presented it as not a tax). The third thing which happened is that, even though the Supreme Court upheld the "show me the papers" part of the Arizona immigration law, the Obama administration immediately declared it would severely limit federal enforcement cooperation with local and state authorities to do exactly that.

So why the flag at half staff? In my mind, in that short span, our Constitution and our republic as conceived by our founding fathers either died or are lying on their death beds. Apparently the president feels the Constitution is a worthless document and he is above all that.

I realize everyone has a right to their own opinion and probably has already made up their own mind in the election, but at least watch/listen to someone other than the mainstream media to try to get another side of the issue, regardless of whether you agree. You needn't be in lock step mit der Fuhrer and follow him right over the cliff. Get past the pretty smile, the eloquent prose off the teleprompter, and the empty promises and untruths made to gather more votes, inflate his ego and lead us further down the path to socialism. Look at Europe; it is about 10 years ahead of us on that path.

Remember the boiling frog story? The boiling frog story is a widespread anecdote describing a frog slowly being boiled alive. The premise is that if a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death. The story is often used as a metaphor for the inability of people to react to significant changes that occur gradually.

It is not too late,
