Model air show

prepares for take-off

This weekend, the Tiffin Ohio Radio Control Modelers have planned its annual Big Bird Fly-In at the flying site on East CR 38.

Saturday is to feature large-scale models (more than 50 cc). Sunday, flying is open to model airplanes of all sizes. Flying begins at 9:30 a.m. both days and runs into late afternoon.

Spectators are advised to bring lawn chairs. Admission and parking are free.

Produce, pet items

featured at area market

FOSTORIA - The next Fostoria Farmers' Market is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at KeyBank, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria. The theme is Dog Days of Summer and booths relating to pets and animal care are to be featured.

The Hancock County Humane Society and Teddies' Rescue are to have animals for petting and the Doggonits 4-H group is to give agility and obedience demonstrations.

Carol Creeger Photography is to take pictures of pets for $5 and then donate $1 for every picture taken to the animal groups. Tri-County Veterinarian Clinic and Shaggy Dog Pet Salon are to have items for pets available, as well as doggie treats from Prairie Song Pet Treats.

Disney show on tap

BELLEVUE - Bellevue Society for the Arts is to stage "A Disney Spectacular!" dinner theater and revue Friday through Sunday in Hirt Theatre, 205 Maple St., Bellevue. The program is to feature songs from Disney films, directed by Angela Bickhart-Sommers and Erica Washburn. The cast includes 32 adults and 24 youth.

The show only is to take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

One hundred dinner tickets are available for the Saturday dinner. The cost for a dinner and show package is $20 for adults and $15 for those 17 and younger.

Sunday, cookies and story time are to begin at 1 p.m., with the show starting at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 or $30 for a family of four.

Show-only tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for 60 and older and $6 for students. Call (419) 484-2787 for reservations.

Backstreet Festival

returning to Findlay

FINDLAY - The fifth annual Backstreet Festival is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in Findlay. The event is to feature antique bicycles and automobiles, a quilt show, horse-drawn carriage rides, music and entertainment.

The Hull-Flater House is to be open with exhibits on Findlay's glass manufacturing and Civil War connections.

Barbecue chicken dinners are to be available for $8, and an ice cream social is planned. Proceeds from the event are to be used for children's workshops and educational programs at Hancock County History Museum, 422 W. Sandusky St., Findlay.

Car Tunes Saturday

FINDLAY - Car Tunes on Main is to kick off the United Way campaign in Hancock County Saturday. A community cruise for vehicles is to run noon-4 p.m., followed by a car show 4-10 p.m. Awards are to be given at 8 p.m.

Open to all vehicles, registration is $15 per car.

Bascom parish to serve barbecue, ham dinners

BASCOM - Sts. Patrick & Andrew Catholic Church is to host its 16th annual chicken barbecue and ham dinner Aug. 26 at St. Patrick Hall, 6250 W. Tiffin St., Bascom.

Dinners are to be served 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the air-conditioned parish hall. Carry-out dinners are to be available in a separate line. The price of a half-chicken or whole slice of ham dinner is $8 and a quarter-chicken or half-ham dinner is $5.

Ritz Players announce

auditions for 'Frank'

"The Diary of Anne Frank" is the next production for The Ritz Players, with performances Oct. 12, 13, 20 and 21. Auditions are planned 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 and 27 in the main theater.

The cast requirements include two girls, 11-18; three women, late 20s-early 60s; one boy, 14-18; and four men, late 30s-60s.

Auditions planned

for 'Jekyll and Hyde'

BUCYRUS - A cast is needed for "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," the first production of Bucyrus Little Theatre's 2012-13 season. Four adult men and two adult women are needed.

Auditions are slated 4 p.m. Aug. 25 and 26 at the theater, 130 Songer Ave., Bucyrus. Performance dates are Oct. 12-14 and 19-21.
