John Joseph Evanesky, 83, of Fostoria, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at his home.
He was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Mather, Pa., to Joseph and Mary (Komer) Evanesky. He served in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II. He married Carolyn H. Williams Jan. 31, 1952, in Hagerstown, Md., and she died Dec. 24, 2001.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary D. (Michael) Puffenberger of Bascom, Theresa (Richard) Gwiner of Fostoria and Carolyn (William) Brauer of Egg City Harbor, N.J.; four grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Ann Lape, Betty Durbin, Margaret Brenzovich, Marie Balaban and Helen Kniha; and an infant brother, Joseph Evanesky.
Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria.
His Mass of Christian burial is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where a rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Parish Cemetery, where the United Veterans of Fostoria will provide military honors.
Memorials are suggested to St. Wendelin Catholic Church in lieu of flowers.
