Man gets community control

An Attica man was sentenced to one year of community control after he appeared in court this week and pleaded guilty to assault.

Jeremy G. Durst, 37, withdrew his plea of not guilty and pleaded guilty to assault, a lesser charge, Monday in Seneca County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Kelbley's courtroom, according to court documents. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but the jail sentence was suspended.

Durst had originally been charged with felonious assault for punching and kicking his girlfriend during an argument in June 2011 in the 5000 block of South SR 4. Her leg was fractured during the altercation and she also suffered bite marks and
