Dorothy Rowena Kimmel

Dorothy Rowena Kimmel, 96, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 4, 2012, at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born Jan. 6, 1916, in Bucyrus, to Herbert Ross and Anna Marie (Strub) Hutchinson. She married Wayne A. Kimmel May 27, 1934, in Kentucky, and he preceded her in death in 1992.

Survivors include two daughters, Margy (Dick Dewald) Wenner of Tiffin and Della (Karl) Lenhart of Attica; three sons, James (Joanne) Kimmel of Tiffin, Donald (Clarice) Kimmel of Los Angeles, Calif., and Gene (Barbara) Kimmel of Findlay; two sisters-in-law, Frances Brashares of Fairborn and Karla Hutchinson of New London, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Max and Robert Hutchinson; and a sister, Colleen Shuman.

Dorothy was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the Keenagers group and a 1933 graduate of Carey High School. She worked for the Seneca County Election Board for more than 35 years and volunteered at church with the FISH food pantry, Heritage Festival and was a charter member of Tiffin Columbian Band Boosters. She enjoyed baking, needlework and will be remembered for her candy she made around the holidays. Dorothy and Wayne traveled to 49 states and Canada, camped and were members of the Coachmen Travel Club.

Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424, with the Rev. Dr. Louis Dorsch officiating. Burial will follow at Seneca Memory Gardens, rural Tiffin.

Friends may visit 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, FISH food pantry in care of the church or Community Hospice Care.
