BETTSVILLE - Bettsville Board of Education approved a new superintendent Monday morning.
Gregg Pettit will serve as superintendent for Bettsville under a two-year contract, said Roger Luhring, treasurer of Bettsville schools. Pettit formerly was principal of Patrick Henry Schools in Henry County, and retired from that position over a year ago, Luhring said. Paul Orshoski, former superintendent at Bettsville, resigned earlier in the year.
Pettit was hired as superintendent on a part-time basis, which Luhring said is unusual for such a position. The board agreed to give the part-time contract a year "and see how it goes," Luhring said.
The board decided to make the position part time after an option fell through that would have allowed Bettsville to share a superintendent with another school, or schools, he said.
Pettit's contract was effective Aug. 1, Luhring said.
