Tiffin City Council approved a resolution Monday evening authorizing a municipal income tax increase of a quarter percent to be placed on November's ballot.
If passed, the city income tax would increase from 1.75 percent to 2 percent.
"In order to keep the staff we have and the services we provide, we're going to need an increase," City Council President Paul Elchert said. "We're in the process of putting a committee together to start a campaign."
The resolution, which sets the language for the Nov. 6 general election, states it is for "the purpose of general municipal operations, maintenance, new equipment, extension and enlargement of municipal services and facilities and capital improvements of the city, including the payment of debt service charges on note and bond issues."
Elchert said the tax increase would help the near $1 million shortfall created by state funding cuts.
