Donald V. Niederkohr, 77, of rural Carey, died at 7:12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.
He was born Aug. 4, 1934, in Carey, the son of William and Laura (Theis) Niederkohr. Donald married Catherine E. Connolly Nov. 6, 1965, at St. Michaels's Catholic Church, Findlay, and she survives in Carey.
Also surviving are three children, Joanie (Ron) Alkire and Andy Niederkohr both of Carey and Theresa (Brian) Mundy of Upper Sandusky; five grandchildren, Tori Mundy, Ashley Niederkohr, Josh Mundy, Alexis Mundy and Jacob Alkire; and two sisters, Rita (Pat) Logsdon of Upper Sandusky and Irma Hill of Carey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and five sisters.
Donald retired in 1991 from construction having worked for Niederkohr Brothers Construction and Niederkohr Construction, Upper Sandusky. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salem Township and was a member of Salem Heritage Society. Donald was a 1952 graduate of Carey High School and a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 1925. He enjoyed bowling, mushroom hunting, riding his golf cart, raising deer from the bottle, farming and the livestock auctions in Bucyrus. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salem Township near Upper Sandusky.
