A family program called "Poling on the Pond" is planned 1-4 p.m. Thursday, 5-8 p.m. Aug. 12 and noon-4 p.m. Aug. 14 at Garlo Heritage Nature Preserve, south of Bloomville on SR 19.
Spend some time poling a raft on a pond. Registration is required and parents must provide life jackets for children.

Everyone can enjoy "Fun at Bowen" 1-4 p.m. Aug. 12 at Bowen Nature Preserve, West Lodi, exploring wetlands, woods and grasslands. Refreshments are to be provided by the Friends of the Seneca County Park District.
An evening marsh hike is planned 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at Springville Marsh State Nature Preserve, off US 23, Carey.
All ages are welcome to walk the boardwalk to look and listen as the sun sets in the marsh. Binoculars are helpful. The walk will last about an hour and qualifies for the walking stick program.
Sandusky County
Puddle Jumpers ages 5 and younger with an adult companion are invited to a "Buzzing Bugs" program at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at Blue Heron Reserve, 2134 CR 260, Vickery.
Children can search for insects along the boardwalk trail. Bug boxes and nets are to be provided.
Stay a little longer at Blue Heron Reserve for "Hike for the Health of It" at noon Aug 13.
No registration is needed.
A "Story & Stroll" is planned 7:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at White Star Park Log Cabin, 5013 CR 65, Gibsonburg, south of the park's main entrance.
Children ages 3-7 can meet under the maple tree in front of the cabins to read a story about the yucky part of nature. Then they can explore the area to look for yucky things.
Fish with Ranger Dan at 10 a.m. Aug. 16 at Creek Bend Farm, 654 S. Main St., Lindsey. Bait and poles are provided or participants can take their own.
A "Meet Me at the Cabin: Embroidery 101" program is set for 2 p.m. Aug. 16 at White Star Cabin, 5013 CR 65, Gibsonburg.
Learn the basics of embroidery. Bring scissors, needle and an embroidery hoop. All other supplies are provided.

Hancock County
Think like a squirrel and check out the free Nature 2.0 - Hard Mast Producing Trees program at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Discovery Center at Oakwoods Nature Preserve, Findlay.
Participants can learn about oak, beech, hickory and walnut trees. This is a young adult and adult series for people ages 14 and older. Registration is due Monday.
Crawford County
"Viewing the Night Sky" will take place 9:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 SR 598, Bucyrus.
Join volunteer Dan Everly and members of the Richland Astronomical Society as they share their knowledge and telescope skills with people interested in celestial sights.
"Walk and Woof: A Prairie Tour" is to take place 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at Unger Park, 1303 Nevada Road, Bucyrus.
Join naturalist Josh Dyer on the trails along the Sandusky River. All ages and canine breeds are welcome.
