State Sen. Dave Burke, R-Marysville, has announced the release of more than $1 million in Clean Ohio Revitalization funds to Fostoria in support of cleanup activities on the former Thyssenkrupp Crankshaft property. The funds were approved by the state controlling board.
Fostoria and its development partners are to use the funds to remove asbestos and clean soil at the site, which is being redeveloped into an industrial and technology park. Thyssenkrupp and the property owner have committed $460,243 in matching funds for site assessment and remediation activities in association with the project.
"This project represents a tremendous investment in job creation and economic development here in Seneca County," Burke said. "The Clean Ohio Program has been instrumental in helping communities repurpose outdated and underused properties, and I applaud all those involved in helping move this project forward for their commitment to improving our community."
First authorized in 2000 and renewed by voters in 2008, the Clean Ohio Fund provides funding that assists communities in cleaning and repurposing brownfields and vacant lots in industrial areas so they can be used for future economic development opportunities. The program also supports the preservation of green spaces and farmland throughout the state.
