UPPER SANDUSKY - This month, Beca House Coffee Co. is celebrating its first anniversary at its location in downtown Upper Sandusky. Owners Heather and Steve Jackson started a coffee roasting business in Maypearl, Texas, April 2008. Customers could order coffee online or by phone and have it roasted and delivered or shipped.
Once the company became successful, the Jacksons wanted to expand their business by opening a shop in which to brew and serve their products, as well. Their research suggested Upper Sandusky as a location with few other similar businesses. They visited the city and found a vacant store at 128 S. Sandusky Ave. that could house the shop.
The grand opening was Aug. 5, 2011.

"We wanted a small community," Heather said. "We've enjoyed getting to know everybody."
Vicky Clinger, who works nearby at First Citizens Bank, has become a customer. When she and co-workers cannot leave the bank for a break, they can call Beca House and have an order delivered.
The space near the front entrance has a number of large tables where groups can have meetings or socialize.
The Jacksons serve hot and iced coffee and tea, smoothies, frappes, lattes, mochas and other choices. They shop for coffees from all over the world and blend them.
"We buy it green and roast it here," Heather said.
Artwork by local artists is hung on the wall and occasionally live music is offered Friday nights. Beca House also has hosted a book signing.
For Independence Day, members of His Blank Canvas, a religious art ministry in Upper Sandusky, created a patriotic chalk drawing that remains on display.
