GOLF: The New Riegel Open is July 14 with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Nature Trails. The club house opens at 7 a.m. for any golfer interested in breakfast. Cost is $45 a person or $180 per team and includes two carts, steak dinner, and door prizes. The outing is full. n Shari Ward and Jane Dillard lead the early shift standings of the Baumann Group Monday Night Ladies Scramble League at Clinton Heights with 24 1/2 points. Becky Gunter-Mouradian and Sharon Smith are second with 22 1/2 points. Carol Lofay and Jackie Waldock took the long drive on No. 12. Smith and Gunter-Mouradian took closest in two on No. 13. Carla Siebenaller and Marie Shuey took the low putts and also the low gross with 36. Jani Yanni and Juli Weininger are first in the late shift standing with 22 1/2 points, while Kerry Jones and Andrea Wensowitch are second with 22. Madelyn Smith and Roberta Fatzinger had the long drive on No. 12. Yanni and Weininger won closest in two on No. 13, low putts, and a low gross of 38.

n The team of Jim Miccichi, Bill Miccichi, Bob Conger and Bob Reinhart won Monday's Retirees League at Seneca Hills at 2 under par. Stan Bowers had the long putt on No. 8. Dan Coppus was closest to the pin on No. 6. Jim Miccichi had the low gross of 34.

OFFICIALS: Classes to become an OHSAA certified volleyball official will begin July 16th at Fostoria High at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students must complete class time and on-court training totalling 25 hours. In addition, you must pass the mechanics and rules tests at 80-percent proficiency. Cost is $120. BASEBALL: The Fifth District American Legion Baseball tournament is July 16-21 at Heidelberg and Tiffin University fields. Monday through Friday games will be played at 5:30 p.m. The Saturday games will be played 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Heidelberg field. Teams playing in the tournament will be Ashland, Bucyrus, Fremont, Galion, Median, Sandusky and Willard. For more information, call Mike Nye at (419) 435-4230.

n The Bowling Green Youth All-Star Baseball Tournament is July 26- Aug. 1 for house all-star teams and select travel teams only. Divisions will be 8-under coach pitch, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. All divisions will be round robin with a four- to six-game guarantee. Birthday cut-off is May 1. Awards are given to the top two to four teams in each age division. n The 2012 Next Level Individual Basketball Skills Camp for boys in grades 8-12 is July 25-27 at Bucyrus High. Sessions run 8-9:30 a.m. for post players, and 10-11:30 a.m. for perimeter players. n The deadline to enter to the Mayes Community Temple Outdoor Basketball Hoops Classic is July 18. The entry fee is $175 per team, and only the first 20 teams will be accepted. The event occurs at the Martin Luther King Park in Marion on July 21-22. Prizes include first, second and third place team trophies, individual trophies, and MVP. MINOR?LEAGUE?BASEBALL:?Heidelberg graduate Ricardo Lizcano started his first game for the Johnson City Cardinals (a minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) Monday. It was his first start in professional baseball. Results of the game were not available at presstime.

Moose defeated Fremont Rotary Club, 13-3. Miranda Sherman, Taran Rodriguez and Jacob Earnhart each singled for Rotary. Vollie Brock, A.J. Phillimore, Tyler Holcomb and Jeff Fret each also singled. Austin Burgess and Dan Chevalier singled twice, Aaric Gannon doubled and singled, and Troy Halcomb tripled and singled. Cole Dauchenbach had a triple for Moose and winning pitcher was Nate Rider

n Bair Bros. beat AJ's Pizza, 20-4. Tyler Fitch, Aaron Kidwell, Chris Gibson, John Vancamp and Shawn Bolen each had a single for AJ's. Kyler Cook, Ryan Steinmetz, Tristan Huston and Derek Bell each singled for Bair Bros. Tyler Wise and Cody Myers each singled twice, and Jordan Jaso had three singles. Taylor Warner doubled and singled, while Tyler Hossler had the only triple of the game. Jacob Hossler was the winning pitcher.

n Bair Bros. beat Moose, 17-5. Elliot Phillimore singled, Dan Chevalier singled twice, and AJ Phillimore tripled for Moose. Winning pitcher Tyler Hossler and Jordan Jaso each singled twice. Tiger Jaso singled and doubled. Taylor Warner had three singles and a triple for the winning team.
