FOSTORIA - At Tuesday's Fostoria city council meeting, Mayor Eric Keckler reported a contingent of 14 city employees and vehicles had been dispatched to Findlay following the recent storm that knocked out power and caused considerable damage. He said the city wanted to show Findlay residents that they are not alone, citing Fostoria's difficulty in cleaning up after big storms.
Trees were uprooted and limbs fell, damaging homes, businesses and a local cemetery. Crews also removed trees from local tributaries in an attempt to avoid flooding should additional heavy rains occur. Ohio Department of Transportation and city of Fremont also provided manpower to help clean up Findlay.
City council had a second reading on an ordinance reconstituting the D.A.R.E. program in Fostoria. Under the wording of the legislation, the program will be placed under the sole control of Safety-Service Director Allyson Murray.
Council also approved legislation modifying the height requirement for fencing around private swimming pools. A resident requested council reconsider the 6-foot height requirement, spurring council to change the height to 4 feet.
In the mayor's report, Keckler said efforts to enlist WSOS in defraying costs of demolishing the former Footlighter's building have failed.
