Finance Director Gwynn Reinhart's preliminary budget for the 2013 year detailed before Tiffin City Council Monday gave Mayor Aaron Montz some insight into the city's upcoming financial stature.
"We are going to have to make some drastic cuts," Montz said in a phone interview.
Reinhart's assessment included an analysis of income tax collections. From June 2011 to June 2012, income taxes in the city brought in $3,860,635.07 and from June 2010 to June 2011, revenue totalled $3,854,507.67.
"Using this year's budget for 2013l would leave the city $600,000 to $850,000 short of what is needed," Montz said.
An ordinance to have Reinhart's report delivered to Seneca County Auditor Julie Adkins by July 30 was passed by council.
On a separate note, Montz said North Central Ohio Regional Council on Governments is working with Sunny Farms Landfill to decrease collective energy rates.
"Sunny Farms Landfill receives four times the natural gas needed," Montz said. "We could use this to run snow plows and school buses that would help us save money."
Waiting to hear from Fostoria Municipal Court on expanding courtspace, council agreed to apply for funds from NCORCoG to pay for a feasibility study for a justice center.
Council also passed a resolution for the city to proceed with a sidewalk replacement project on Miami Street.
