McCutchenville firefighters responded to a house fire early Saturday morning on West CR 14.
Fire chief Don Shellhouse said they received the call around 2 a.m., and arrived at the scene within fourteen minutes. Shellhouse said the home was fully engulfed when the department arrived.
Three adults were home at the time of the blaze, he said, and everyone made it out safely. The Red Cross assisted the victims, he said.
Shellhouse said the State Fire Marshall responded to the scene, but a cause was undetermined Saturday afternoon. Shellhouse said he didn't believe the fire was suspicious.
Approximately $200,000 in damage was estimated, and the house was a total loss, he said. Two vehicles and a lawnmower also were damaged in the fire, which Shellhouse said likely originated in the garage area.
Shellhouse said approximately 13 equipment and rescue vehicles responded to the scene, and the Chaplains Corp. provided canteen service to those battling the fire. Because of recent high temperatures, it was fortunate the Chaplains Corp. was able to respond quickly, he said, and the cooler air brought by Friday's storms also helped conditions for the firefighters.
Mutual aid was provided by Bascom and NBS firefighters, and Shellhouse said everyone worked well as a team to put the fire out as quickly as possible, without putting lives in danger.
