Violet I. (Miller) Gurney Bayer

Violet I. Gurney Bayer, 103, of Tiffin and formerly Attica, passed away Monday morning, June 25, 2012, at Willard Healthcare Center, Willard.

She was born Jan. 21, 1909, in Richmond Township, Huron County, to William E. and Nancy A. (Newman) Miller. She married George O. Gurney Nov. 9, 1932, and he died Nov. 2, 1980. She later married Clarence E. Bayer June 22, 2003, and he survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include a son, Gary (Jane ) Gurney of Attica; a daughter, Janet Swartzmiller of Attica; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Gurney of Bloomville; three stepsons, Gordon (Karen) Bayer and Neil (Barb) Bayer, both of Attica, and Wade (Jen) Bayer of Bloomville; a stepdaughter, Betty (Ed) Dillinger of Bloomville; nine grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; six great-great-

grandchildren; and several stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William R. and Dennis L. Gurney; two brothers, Robert and Russell Miller; and a great-granddaughter.

She was a member of the Union Pisgah United Methodist Church, Attica, a member and former president of the United Methodist Women, a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher, a volunteer at Mercy Willard Hospital and a volunteer at Seneca East Elementary School.

She was a 1926 graduate of Willard High School and then attended one year at the Richland County Normal School, Mansfield. She then began teaching at Sykes School on Willard West Road for six years. She later attended Bowling Green State University in the summer months, graduating in July 1931. She later became a housewife and mother before returning to teaching in 1951 at Attica Elementary School and then retired in 1974.

Her funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with Pastor Pete Bellamy officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Willard.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
